The Week of August 30 to September 5th

You have survived the first week of the semester. I hope you have found this course to be interesting so far.

It is easy to think that this course doesn't involve much work since there is no required textbook or homework. However, if you want to do well on the exams then I strongly suggest that you regularly answer the questions in the Lecture Guide. After class each day or maybe each weekend you should answer the questions that cover material we have dealt with up to that point in class. For example, at this point you can only answer up to about #7 but by next week you'll likely be able to study up to about #20-#30. The point is that if you wait until the night before the exam, it is overwhelming to study all of the questions as much as you need to. Also, keep in mind that the review questions can not cover everything. So, if something was stressed in class as being important or you think it looks important then it is a good idea to study it even if there is no specific review question covering it. So, here's the rule: study the notes THEN the review questions THEN take the Practice Test; don't think you can just take the Practice Test at the last minute and be prepared for the real exam. I expect for you to know this material extremely well.
